Morning Assemblies

On Friday mornings, weather permitting, Wai`alae School students, faculty, and staff come together at 8:00am for announcements about upcoming events or activities, to hear Words of Wisdom, and to be a closer community.

Families are welcomed to join in on this weekly gathering that happens in the B-building courtyard (right outside of the library) and usually lasts about 15 minutes.

Our first morning assembly of the school year will be on this Friday – August 10th.  Then, due to the Statehood Day holiday on the 17th and School Picture Day on the 24th, our second morning assembly will be on Friday August 31st.

Special Subject Classes (Physical Education, Art, Hawaiian Studies, Music) will begin on Monday August 6th.   Students will rotate through these 45-minute classes on designated days of the week.  Classroom teachers should be sharing their classroom’s particular Special Subject Schedule, but here is the basic/general schedule for all classrooms:  2012-2013 Special Subject Classes Schedule  PLEASE NOTE:  Accommodations are made for field trips, holidays, etc. so the schedule is subject to variation. However, the teachers will let students know of any changes.

Here are some notes from the teachers to ensure that your child is prepared for their classes:

Physical Education – Mr. Troy Doike

Dear Parents,

In order to ensure the safety and well-being of your child in physical education, students are required to wear shoes and bring a water bottle. In the past, broken glass and other potentially dangerous objects have been found at Petrie Park. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, students must wear shoes for physical education. Please have your child wear comfortable athletic shoes. Boots and dress shoes are considered inappropriate for physical education. Students who forget or wear inappropriate shoes will not be allowed to participate in physical education. In addition, your child’s participation grade will be affected.

Hydration is an important aspect of your child’s health. Students need to be hydrated before, during, and after physical education. In the past, the water fountain at Petrie Park was broken for an extended amount of time. Therefore, water bottles are a requirement for physical education. Bottled water or sports drinks may be substituted for water bottles. Students who forget their water bottles will be allowed to participate in physical education. However, their participation grade will be affected.

Since I do not have a direct phone line, I will be unable to check my messages as frequently as in the past. If your child(ren) is unable to participate due illness or injury, please leave a message before 8:00 am on the day your child is scheduled for physical education .Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Thank you for your support and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call me at 733-4880 ext. 306.
