‘AINA In Schools at Wai’alae

‘AINA (Actively Integrating Nutrition & Agriculture) In Schools is a program of the Kokua Hawaii Foundation.

Wai’alae was one of a few schools to pilot this program in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 school years and we have been fortunate to be able to still have this program here at Wai’alae with the continued support of the Kokua Hawaii Foundation and parent volunteers.

‘AINA In Schools program has three main goals: address childhood health issues, encourage environmental stewardship, and creat an institutional market for Hawaii’s farmers.

The program attempts to achieve these goals with six integrated program components that incorporate the Hawaii State Academic Standards.  These components are: Nutrition Education, Garden-based Learning, Agricultural Literacy, Healthy Food on Campus, Waste Reduction & Management, and Family and Community Outreach.
